‘Piracy’ website offers NFT art as free downloads

The Internet mocks NFT owners by downloading and taking screenshots of their purchases. For this purpose, they even created a “pirate bay”.

“It’s not about copyright vs no copyright, it’s about making the pixels as censorship-resistant as the token they’re attached to.”

Right clickers (as they were nicknamed) wanted to show the pointlessness of buying NFT so badly that they created an analog of The Pirate Bay torrent tracker with 20 terabytes of “hijacked” digital artifacts.

Example on Twitter: one of the large NFT projects, Bored Ape Yacht Club, uploads another digital avatar of a monkey. The lot giving the right to own “monkey # 1626” is bought for 100 ETH. But under the happy purchaser’s tweet, a thread is immediately formed from users who publish the same avatar with the caption: “I got it for free.”

That is, someone acquired the right to own the picture in exchange for money, but the rest of the internet population downloads it for free because this option is easily available on crypto exchange websites. If all else fails, they simply take a screenshot.

Such things have been happening since the very beginning of the NFT wave, which often gives rise to a discussion: why buy something that is already available to everyone on the Internet? Is it a pointlessly bloated business, or is it a piece of the internet of the future that many simply haven’t realized yet?
