Content subscription service OnlyFans has added NFT support. Users can set non-fungible tokens as profile avatars, with more features to be announced soon.
“Our mission is to empower content creators to realize their potential. This feature is the first step in exploring the role that NFTs can play on our platform,” said Amrapali Gan, chief executive of the company.
OnlyFans supports tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. Eligible avatars will display a network icon to confirm the authenticity of the NFT. The company noted that the feature appeared on the platform in December 2021.
The OnlyFans service was launched in 2016. As of the end of 2021, the platform hosts over 2 million content creators and over 180 million registered users. Payments to creators exceeded the $5 billion benchmark.
Social networks are increasingly exploring the possibilities of NFT. In January, developer Nima Ouji noticed that Reddit was testing a feature that would allow you to set images of tokens as avatars.
In a conversation with TechCrunch, a representative of the social platform confirmed this information.
In December 2021, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said the company was “actively looking into” the NFT sector. According to him, the service wants to make the tokens “more accessible to a wide audience.”
In January 2022, the Financial Times announced Meta’s plans to integrate non-fungible tokens into Facebook and Instagram. According to the publication, the corporation is also working on a prototype platform that allows you to issue NFTs.
Simultaneously, Twitter integrated the function of adding NFTs to their profile.
